Hi,
It's been a while since I've used JAWS exclusively, so I'm not up to speed on this sort of thing. I've been doing some repairs on my grandmother's laptop, and I noticed that she has JAWS 11 and 12 both installed. Both aren't running, I don't think, but I'm wondering if I can get rid of 11 without disrupting the functionality of 12. Can someone help me?
Mel
should work fine. I had to get rid of 10 because the licenseing was not mine, well, neither is 12 but I didn't even have the install discs for 10 anymore. It was from my school district.
but the point is yes. And if it does somehow mess up, just simply reinstall 12. The discs should be handy anyway, because 12 is known to crash so being able to be reinstalled is important.
I don't think it'll hurt anything, but it's probably best to get rid of one of them to free up space anyway.
Thanks, you two. I'll dialogue with her as to the whereabouts of the disc, and once I have it in my possession, I'll uninstall 11.
you can uninstall one from other seperetly. When you uninstall the program, i think, from memory, (quite a few years ago) it promps you as to what you need to do and so on. I think one of the promps is the question either you want to remove all share user setting or share program setting, can't remember now, but go no, that should keep all your setting nice and good on which ever version you decide to keep.
Yes, just uninstall it as you would any program. Listen to what it ask and keep your settings.
It's also important not to uninstall shared components otherwise the version of JAWS left behind won't run.
The question about shared components will either be presented to you as a choice at the start of the uninstallation as a type of uninstall, or you'll be asked during the uninstall process whether or not you want to remove them. How this question is asked changed a few versions of JAWS ago but I can't remember when.
The other thing to watch for is that sometimes uninstalling a version of JAWS can affect the startup preferences for the version you've left on. If it doesn't start and it should, it's obviously fairly easy to rectify.
mell didn't have either of her versions of jaws starting automaticly so to her this wont be a problem.
if you can't find the disk, you can always get the installers from the web mel.
if you need help, get at me somehow.
